Welcome to How many Calories? website. In here you will find out calories in all sorts of food that you eat every day or would like to include in your diet plan. You will see calories and other information about the food you eat and useful related good and bad "side affects".

Should I check how many calories I eat

Should you check calories in food you eat? Some people say calories don't matter in your diet which is most likely true BUT it is not practical. Calories are a good indicator that allow you track your progress easily and therefore are still the most popular measure that allows people lose weight. Let's take for example The biggest looser TV programme; they DO count calories. Why? Because most people are not expert dietitians and are not able to to say if this food 100calories is better or worse then this food which is also 100 calories. Foods are complex in nature and most people will limit themselves to basics and the most basic element in food when it comes to diets is still calories (for most people obviously there are always exceptions).

 

Counting how many calories are in food is an effective way to lose weight as long as you keep to your target and you don't make big exceptions?

 

Does it mean I cannot have an ice cream or some chocolate. NO! Even if you want to live healthy it doesn't mean you cannot have an icecream from time to time in reasonable amount (let's say 50gram twice a week). It might actually help you increase your motiviation as your diet is much more realistic (you don't blame yourself) and you can enjoy your small extras but BEWARE most of your food should be natural and "rich". By rich I mean foods that will give you long term energy (not short term energy boost like sweets) and foods that are needed by your body to function properly. So when you keep to your dialy calories ensure that most of them are "rich" foods without chemicals (check food label).

 

How many calories should I eat a day

That largely depends on a person the guide for an average adult person is 2000 calories (women) and 2500 calories (men). Popular question is how many calories should I eat to lose weight? That is actually easy to check... Best thing is to check how many calories you eat every normal day (for 7 days) than calculate average and than just eat 10% less and monitor your weight but don't ever go below 1000 calories this is usually very bad for your body.
